Becki Koon

Book reading has been a favorite activity of mine since I was a child. I had a natural draw to the written word and as I grew older I recognized writing my own words was a gift to my soul. My favorite class in high school was my creative writing class in which I let my love of writing take me away on journeys into the world of imagination. In fact, I still have those stories written all those years ago along with some poetry I tried my hand with. The seeds of my future were being planted.

My life path took many turns and yet, the writing was still a part of the journey. I self published my first book about my son and the healing that took place for him with blue-green algae as a supplement to his diet. I became a grant writer for the childrens’ school and branched out into working in the nonprofit world using writing to win over $2 million in grant awards for local projects.

I wrote in several collaborative books, sharing short stories on a variety of topics. Many of those books are international best sellers. All of this led up to me writing the book that was an outpouring of my soul, 20 Days Changed Everything, A Love Story Through Conscious Death To Afterlife Connection. I would have never guessed I would be writing about the death process and afterlife connection but found myself with a passion burning inside of me to write about it. It was soul healing, from the deepest heartbreak imaginable to the bliss of divine love that knows no bounds.

When agreeing to be a contributor to The No BS Spiritual Book club I had no idea how challenging it would be to choose only 10 books. Choosing 10 books took me on an emotional ride that I did not expect. The distilling down I had to go through was a huge hurdle but in the end, I decided on the 10 books I share with you. These books impacted my life in numerous ways and I have a deep gratitude for the authors who offer up their life, their wisdom, their insight, as they craft the sentences that have changed my life.

My 10 Best

(In no particular order)

Man’s Search For Meaning, An Introduction To Logotherapy by Viktor E. Frankl

This amazing book found me at a time in my life when I was questioning the reality I was experiencing while raising a child who challenged not only my belief systems but the systems of medicine and education in which we were immersed. I was doing everything I knew to do as a mother and yet, my child was suffering and questioning being on the planet. I was searching for meaning to all of the challenges we faced when out of the blue (divine guidance), this book magically appeared.

When faced with death at every turn, Viktor found meaning to life, meaning for his survival beyond his current circumstance. HIs internal strength rang a bell deep within my soul. I wanted to understand the meaning underneath the surface of my life, my child’s life. His discovery of Logotherapy, as he would come to call it, was the very antidote I needed to bring hope to my soul. I knew that somewhere in the suffering and challenge a deeper meaning was surfacing. This book helped me to step back and open my eyes to see the gift in the pain, the tension that would catalyze a new way of viewing all of life. It was a Godsend, helping me to understand the power we have as humans to survive and find meaning in what can be viewed as the most tragic of circumstances. I found a renewed spirit to forge ahead and expand my love and light while empowering the beautiful human potential carried within.

The Power of Now A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle

Breathe into this now moment, this now moment, and this now moment. I tell my clients this all of the time when I am guiding them into a healing session. The beauty of this now moment cannot be overemphasized. It is in the now that life happens. Jack, my beloved, in his afterlife expression, is always reminding me to “breathe into the now Becki, this moment, this space, this time.”

There is no better book to illustrate this concept than The Power of Now, A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment. When Jack and I first came together in relationship, we were sharing books to read and discuss, exploring our spiritual lives together in profound ways that were the very essence of our relationship, our higher level connection. We both read this book and spent hours in the place of no-time while we let our conversation flow wherever it needed to go, fully present in the now.

This book was a huge gift in learning to honor and remember the very essence of being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death” as Eckhart shares. This beautifully simple book continues to weave its message through me as I live and breathe into all aspects of my life.

Infinite Self, 33 Steps To Reclaiming Your Inner Power by Stuart Wilde

Stuart Wilde has been a favorite author of mine since I read his book 33 Steps. Something about his sense of humor and often irreverent view of our human condition made me smile and, at times, laugh out loud. He based his steps on the 33 Energies of Man, an ancient teaching likely from the Taoists that said the 33 energies flowed from the higher planes into the earth dimension assisting man into higher consciousness.

This book was a practical guide for me as I was stepping more fully into my spiritual journey. I was the Initiate and reading about the simple steps empowered me to continue seeking my own inner, infinite self. I needed the strength of his guidance as I was navigating challenges in my life at the time.

The Indigo Children, The New Kids Have Arrived by Lee Carroll-Jan Tober

Lee Carroll and Jan Tober wrote about the The New Children who seemed to be coming to the earth en masse. Indigo Children was written as an awareness of human evolution that seemed to be happening in the children being born. These children carried qualities which were a set of attributes and behavior patterns that were not only beautifully amazing, but often challenging and system-busting.

As I navigated raising my own “Indigo Child”, I was beyond excited to read a book that felt like my story, my life as a parent. I read it from front to back in one sitting as I absorbed the information they offered. The insight into my world felt exposed to the light of day. Some of the wisdom shared became pieces of the fabric with which I wove my journey as a parent to my own unique child, his life challenges and gifts. This book validated much of my intuitive “knowing” in being his mother and I was pleased with my awareness

The Journey Home, A Kryon Parable, The Story of Michael Thomas and the Seven Angels
by Kryon

Join Michael Thomas on a metaphysical adventure of the soul. I loved this KRYON parable of an ordinary man who found himself at the crossroads of death and true desire. He just wants to go home but must travel through several adventures that includes seven angelic beings giving him tasks to accomplish on each adventure as well as dark entities lurking along the way trying to sabotage his success. Michael navigates this adventure through every human emotion that rises and in the end finds his home.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure of this book and was taken by surprise many times along the way. This was a fun read while also posing life altering scenarios that pull you in and have you questioning your own paradigms and beliefs.

Hot Chocolate For The Mystical Soul, 101 True Stories of Angels, Miracles and Healings
by Arielle Ford

This lovely book was the first collaborative book I had the opportunity to share a personal story in. It is a book that opened up the door for me to express some of the amazing events that were taking place while raising a uniquely gifted child whose psychic abilities were bursting open. I found a home amongst the authors of the stories and felt like I was not alone in the experiences that were unfolding in my life. It was a breath of fresh air to be able to write the story of the angelic visits shaping my journey into a realm of healing and hope.

These 101 True Stories warm the heart and open up the possibilities to experience the wonder and magic of life.

Power vs Force, The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior
by David R. Hawkins M.D., Ph.D.

“The skillful are not obvious – They appear to be simple-minded – Those who know this know the patterns of the Absolute – To know the patterns is the Subtle Power – The Subtle Power moves all things and has no name.”—David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph. D.

In this book, Dr. Hawkins brings decades of research and insight into the penetrating illumination of revolutionary discoveries in advanced particle physics and nonlinear dynamics. In other words, he shines a light on how hard science is confirming what mystics and saints have always said about the self, God, and the very nature of reality. He does this in a way that is accessible to anyone, through kinesiology.

Being an empath all of my life often left me with unanswered questions as to why I felt the way I did or why did I perceive my interactions in a way that did not make logical sense? I often found myself trying to make a situation better not even knowing why I needed to make it better. This book was an amazing venture into the hidden realm that I was living. I was in awe of how the very words we speak carried an energy that was often not so subtle to me or my body. I finally felt like I had a playbook laying out information to assist me in navigating the subtle energy fields I was naturally plugged into. This book resonated truth through every cell of my body, through every awareness of my soul.

Unless It Moves the Human Heart,
The Craft and Art of Writing
by Roger Rosenblatt

“Writing is the cure for the disease of living. Doing it may sometimes feel like an escape from the world, but at its best moments it is an act of rescue.”—Roger Rosenblatt

I had always had a hankering for writing. I had dabbled in sharing my journey raising a complicated child in a self-published book called Complicated Child ~ Simple Options. I had written a story in the collaborative book Hot Chocolate For The Mystical Soul and I knew I had another book in me to write. But life was busy and I was not moving forward with that internal nudge. Then, my husband, who was my biggest fan, gifted me with this book. He always told me that I had an important heartfelt message to share with the world and he knew this book would resonate with me.

Roger is an author, teacher and guide to students asking the essential question, why write? He details a semester in his “Writing Everything” class where he chronicles the intimate conversations a group of young students have while grappling with crafting narrative that compels a reader to read. His impassioned plea for the necessity of writing hit a chord within me and I recognized the need for my rescue through words. Once again, I was driven to write.

The Afterlife of Billy Fingers, How My Bad-Boy Brother Proved to Me There’s Life After Death
by Annie Kagan

If there was ever a book I consider coming into my life at the exact right time, this is it. I had just lost my husband Jack and was learning to be open to the reality that he was connecting with me from his afterlife. I was unsure and questioning myself. Was this really happening? Am I really seeing him, feeling him, hearing him? This book calmed my soul and helped me to realize that I, in fact, was not just making things up in my mind but was having honest to goodness, real communication with my beloved. I opened the door even further as I accepted my role as Jack’s scribe for our own book that we were writing together.

Billy Fingers has ongoing after-death communication with his sister in this book that is a journey into the bliss and wonder of life beyond death. Billy’s profound, detailed description of the mystical realm he traverses, the Beings of Light that await him, and the wisdom he receives takes the reader beyond the near-death experience. As explained by Dr. Moody, Billy is an afterworld walker.
